My new office location means new restaurants for lunch with my coworkers and happy hour with friends. One of our favorite restaurants in the area is Butchers and Bakers. A vibrant newly opened 2-level restaurant in Farmington CT that’s only 5 minutes away from our office.
Located in The Exchange Plaza across the UCONN Health Center on Route 4, the former building was transformed into a modern rustic restaurant that features exposed bricks and wood panels, tastefully decorated with organic materials and earth tone colors. The natural sunlight penetrating through the over-sized windows overlooking the patio adds energy and a welcoming atmosphere.
Guests can also enjoy full-service dining and live entertainment at the enclosed spacious patio bar. Upstairs is an additional seating area with a full bar which is perfect for meetings, private functions and events.
My coworkers and I probably have dined here at least 5 times. Our favorite is the coal-fired garlic bread – focaccia bread smothered with Gorgonzola cream sauce. My personal favorite is the red lentil hummus and crudités.
Crudités are just raw vegetables paired with a dipping sauce, and are traditional French appetizers. Nothing fancy, but what makes it mouthwatering is the beautiful spread of bright colors that are creatively arranged. It’s an ingenious way to eat raw veggies for people like me who’s not a fan of veggie platters at all.
Since I’ve been here like 5 times already, I already have a favorite waiter. His name is Jack. He’s witty, friendly, attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. Because the place is newly opened, there were days that the kitchen was slow, but he makes sure that we’re still having a great experience by making us laugh and checking-in from time to time in a non-intrusive manner.
Food and Drinks
“New American fare prepared using fresh ingredients seasoned in twin coal-fired ovens. Full bar serving quality cocktails, beer, and wine.” Butchers and Bakers
Guests can indulge in dishes ranging from brick wood fired pizza, vegetable centric dishes, hand-carved meats, decadent desserts to traditional comfort food like skillet Carbonara mac n’ cheese. You can even order a coal-fired Valencia style paella.
Pizza dough is made in-house daily by their bakers. Gluten-free crust is also available.
The drink lists span from specialty cocktails to wine and local beers that will satisfy every thirst and taste.
I love the bread section. It reminds me of this B&B I stayed at in Tuscany where they make and serve freshly baked breads every day for dinner and breakfast.
I follow Butchers and Bakers on Instagram. They posted this Bloody Mary bar that truly looks incredible. I personally don’t drink Bloody Marys, but I know a lot of people who would love this. I hope you guys check it out, and let me know how it is.
