Foodies of Connecticut
A sweet smell of smoke filled the air from the scrumptious aroma of charcoal grilling welcomed my arrival to the Annual Summertime Grill-Off event, hosted by the lovely Caryl – organizer of MeetUp Fabulous Foodies. This competition has been an annual tradition for a group of foodies in Connecticut to showcase their talents for the opportunity to take home the golden trophy… and of course, a year-long of well-deserved bragging rights.
All participants demonstrated their cooking skills to create “the winning meal” that would impress the panel of experts led by Chef Jay, author of “The Gentleman’s Cookbook” and a regular guest chef on WFSB Better Connecticut. The entrées were judged based on taste, texture, originality and presentation.
Feast your eyes on these luscious creations from our very talented contestants. WARNING: These gorgeous food photos could cause a serious “mouthwatering sensation.”
Non-contestants brought in some savory dishes too.
… And the 2016 Grill-Off Master champion was Graham for his blueberry creamy ricotta sandwich paired with blueberry gazpacho. The runner-up was Jennifer for her Cubano pork tenderloin.
Congratulations Graham and Jennifer!
A special thanks to Caryl for hosting this well executed and memorable event that brought together food aficionados from all over Connecticut. Cheers to a job well done!
I’ve had my fair share of attending picnics and potluck dinners, but this food experience was one of my favorites! All the food and drinks were outstanding. But what made this experience truly remarkable was the privilege to meet fellow gastronomes who completely understand the “joy of food.”
It was fascinating to witness how a simple ‘ingredients’ topic evolved and encouraged curiosity, conversation, laughter and friendship among people of different backgrounds. Truly is “FOOD BRINGS CULTURES TOGETHER.” and transcends all boundaries.
