Exhausted from the exhilarating travel from New York to Manila, Manila to Coron Palawan and Coron back to Manila all in 8 days, my tired body submerged into the luxurious bedding of my hotel room. As I was indulging the softness of the sheets against my skin, my eyes directed towards an oversized window, and noticed these two beautiful yellow mangoes that were delicately adorned with a purple orchid. I mumbled, “This is home away from home.”
Upon entering Marriott Manila Hotel, a warm smile and greeting from a lovely lady by the staircase welcomed my arrival who happily assisted me to the front desk. My impression was, “This is new.” I was greeted and welcomed 4 times by 4 different people within seconds of my arrival;
1) Security guard who was wearing a “barong” style uniform (Barong is a formal men’s wear in the Philippines), 2.) Doorman, 3) Lady greeter, and by the 4) Bellhop.
Take note, I was not even at the check-in area yet. It was “mind blowing” to witness every staff member held bent to assist their guests. It was surreal, “Am I dreaming?”, this cannot be Marriott, but it was.
Here’s another surreal moment, the lady at the front desk probably sensed that I was spent. She left her area to walk me to my room 305, and made sure that I was fine and had everything I needed. Honestly, I was uncomfortable receiving this warm, genuine and caring reception because “No Marriott in the US has provided me with this level of service.” Usually, their pleasant service starts and ends at the check-in area, and that’s it.
A whiff of a sweet and warm aroma awakened my senses…holy moly, a GINGERBREAD TRAIN! What a wonderful and welcoming smell.
Because I was there in December, the lobby was beautifully and festively decorated for the Christmas season.
Our stay came with a complimentary breakfast which is a typical Marriott perk. But what’s not typical is the food selection. It was a high-end buffet experience with a chocolate fountain! OMG! Was I in Las Vegas all along? Click here for more images and review of the Marriott Café.
Executive lounge, multiple dining options, dry cleaning/laundry service, sophisticated fitness facility, outdoor infinity pool overlooking the city, event/meeting rooms, spa, easy access to the Resorts World Casino and much more.
With the exasperating traffic in Manila, its location is enviable. It’s surrounded by restaurants, cafes, bars, casinos, shopping, movies, a golf course and airport terminals. They also have a courtyard and green space including a view of Villamor Golf course.
Floor to ceiling window allowing natural lighting, calming color palette, contemporary design, comfortable bed, a huge TV with lots of channels to choose from, mini-bar, seating area and my favorite was the beautiful and spacious bathroom. The bathroom has multiple shower heads including a rainforest shower. It felt like home.
UNPARALLELED and GENUINE SERVICE
I left my passport in the safe after checking out. In a panic, and with tears running down my face, I rushed back to the hotel and advised the concierge. I was escorted by a valet staff back to the room. I got my passport back, and handed the guy a tip for the trouble of escorting me. I was surprised that he refused to accept my money. He was happy to help, but I was persistent. Finally, he accepted it. I love how shy he was, and kept thanking me like I gave him millions (I wish).
I used to categorize Marriott hotels as a clean and comfortable place to crash, that’s about it. But Marriott Manila completely raised the bar and enhanced the experience.
