Inventive Italian Gem in Windsor
Vito’s By The Water Restaurant in Windsor Connecticut
Beautiful, romantic, modern, fresh ingredients, quality food and superb service… many reasons why I keep coming back to Vito’s by the Water. It is everything you expect from fine dining.
I came here to meet my friends one afternoon. From the moment we walked in the door, we were greeted like a long-lost friend with a warm smile. We were also seated probably at the nicest table. It has a full view of the pond, and the lavender arrangement was a nice touch.
You don’t have to worry, there’s plenty of space.
I think the restaurant has 7 dining areas; the bar, main dining, express dining, 2 meeting rooms, 2 outdoor sections, one is called The Piazza.
The ambiance is modern, elegant and yet unpretentious. It has oversized windows overlooking the pond.
Once we were seated, we were introduced to our waitress, Avia. Oh boy, did we get a great one! I was very impressed by her impeccable service.
Avia was very personable and knowledgeable about the menu. She was attentive but not intrusive. I love how she eloquently described our food, how to savor the flavor and what to expect before we even took a bite.
Oyster shooter with a side of mojito. I had an oyster shooter with hot sauce and vodka before, and I like theirs better. Obviously, mojito is not Italian, but the sweetness and tartness of the lime juice served with fresh mint in a chilled glass was simply perfect for the refreshing summery taste I was craving for.
Pan-seared scallop in a sweet chili reduction sauce with fresh greens on the side. The scallop was nicely seasoned, soft and cooked to perfection. The first bite had a slight kick of heat from the sweet chili sauce. The fresh greens and tomatoes gave a nice contrast of flavor that complement very well with the saltiness of scallop.
This dish reminded me of my trip to Hong Kong where I had a pan-seared scallop with orange soy-chili reduction sauce. When food brings back beautiful memories, it‘s a wonderful thing.
The famous Vito’s meatballs appetizer. They’re not your traditional meatballs in red rich red sauce. This one has more earthy ingredients like corn, peas and wild mushrooms. The meatballs were cooked the way I liked it, golden brown. They’re tasty, meaty and tender that I didn’t need a knife to cut it.
Freshly baked bread and the dipping sauce. This dipping sauce alone is worth the trip. It’s garlicky, rich in spice and flavorful. It’s my favorite dipping sauce among all the dipping sauces. It’s addicting.
Grilled Marinated Baby Octopus Salad – Not many people I know have tried octopus. But I can tell you, this is my favorite food especially if done right. An overcooked octopus could be rubbery. This one was superb. The octopus was tender, mild, buttery and nutty, and when combined with the bitterness and spiciness of arugula and tanginess of mild vinaigrette and artichoke hearts, it simply reminds me of a good and light Tuscany meal. I can’t wait to try it again.
Chicken Saltimbocca – Chicken saltimbocca plus demi-glace sauce, it worked! Though I’m missing that lemony taste that I’m used to, but the sauce really makes it. I liked that they used mozzarella and not parmesan because the prosciutto alone is salty . The combination of chicken, smokiness of prosciutto, summer vegetables, lightness of mozzarella and the demi-glace all came together to make it a delightful dish. Mmmm…
Chocolate Truffle Cake – it’s flourless chocolate cake with a chocolate ganache. This is just fantastic for the chocolate lover like me. It’s rich, delicious and satisfying. The unsweetened whipped cream and fruity drizzles offset that richness and complement that intense chocolate taste. It has this wonderful dry but silky texture that just melts in your mouth. I truly enjoyed this dessert.
Do not miss out on a wonderful meal and pleasant dining experience. I’ve been coming here since they opened, and am always pleased with the superb service. The food is always made with care and priced right. I enjoy the warm ambiance and modern décor. It’s definitely worth the visit.
